PLEASE READ! Athlete Covid Protocol prior to Season Clearance

In addition to physicals being uploaded to FamilyID, kids will also have to provide a negative PCR COVID test that has been conducted less than 72 hours before the official start date of the Fall II sports season, which is 2/24.  This means a negative test from before Sunday 2/21 will not be accepted.  If a student-athlete will be playing multiple sports, they will only have to provide a negative PCR test for the sport that they attend FIRST. They will have to check in with the ATC before their 2nd sport to confirm.  They can get tested anywhere (ProjectBeacon, Urgent Care, Walgreens, CVS etc.).  Please note that if students choose to get tested at a doctor or urgent care facility, they need to request a PCR test. To find testing sites near you:

https://www.framinghamma.gov/2952/COVID-19-Testing-Information

https://www.mass.gov/info-details/find-a-covid-19-test

There will also be ***FREE testing at FHS from 7- 8 am and 3:30-4:30 pm on Monday 2/22***  In order to participate in testing at FHS, parents/guardians must complete the attached consent form (English, Spanish, Portuguese).  All students must present the completed and signed parental/guardian consent at the time of testing.

Negative test results should be emailed to: emakowski@framingham.k12.ma.us

In addition, student athletes will be required to participate in the district student pool testing program starting March 1, 2021.  As part of this program, they will be regularly tested when they are at school for in person learning.  It is also strongly encouraged that student-athletes continuing in the remote learning model participate in regular testing.

Please note that any person who has been positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days, is not eligible to participate in testing. They must provide a copy of their positive test result to me. After 90 days post COVID-19, they will begin the required pool testing.

Any positive test and close contact exposures to COVID-19 must quarantine and follow all MDPH, and Framingham Board of Health protocols.  Athletes and coaches will need to provide written BOH/CTC clearance to return to practices and games. All coaches, parents and athletes are expected to cooperate fully with any contact tracing if necessary.

Student-athletes who are/have been diagnosed with COVID-19 infection must follow our Return to Play protocol based off of the American Academy of Pediatrics guidance for return to activity.  Before beginning the return to play protocol, these students will need to provide a health care provider’s cardiac clearance.

Return to Athletics *UPDATE*

Dear Framingham Sports Community,
This letter is to serve notice to the high school athletic community and to inform all stakeholders that we are currently putting the finishing touches on our plans to return to athletics. With so much in flux and so many moving parts challenges to create missed seasons still exist. We will be careful releasing only information that we feel will be accurate and not subject to change however anything we do will be based on all return to school plans, timelines, and protocols with potential for adjustments at any time.
As a Coach and Athletic Director I have extensive knowledge of how important the athletic experience can be to student athletes. I know firsthand how the bonds between coaches, athletes, and their shared experiences contribute to the lifelong success of our student athletes. We all recognize that the Covid pandemic has robbed us of these experiences…. until now.
What we have learned over the last year is that life is truly unpredictable. We have also learned that no matter how difficult the circumstances we must find reasons for optimism and continue to deal with what we can control in a positive way. We know that the return to athletics may not be perfect, it may come with stops and starts, but we are prepared to begin and make the best out of whatever opportunities we are afforded.
Please know seasons will vary in length and breadth of experience. Each team’s season will have varying numbers of competitions with some unable to play games. That said our coaches and our staff are trying to find ways to manufacture meaningful experiences in the sports we have missed. Like everything during the pandemic this effort will require patience, flexibility, and positivity. It will require us to embrace the core reasons we engage in athletics. Our goal is to renew the bonds of friendship, renew the bonds of mentoring by coaches, and to provide a shared positive experience.
As a parent I have seen Covid take seminal moments of my kids’ lives and I have a firm grasp on the sadness and despair that young people have felt during this awful time. During my tenure at Framingham High School I have experienced the passion this city has for its teams and our athletes. As Athletic Director I have a competitive spirit and love to see our teams win but what means more to me than that is the passion our athletic staff, coaches, athletes, and fans have for our programs. More than ever our primary and almost sole focus will be about creating the experiences that Covid has so far taken away. We won’t be focusing on wins, losses, or personal achievements but on being together and enjoying the experience.
Please begin to frequently check www.FlyerAthletics.com and follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Over the next few weeks we will steadily release specific information regarding registration, practice times and facilities, and all other relevant information regarding our teams.
Please feel free to email Coaches (email addresses are on our website) or call our office at any time and we will be happy to answer questions.
Continue to do the best you can to stay safe and healthy so we can get back to being together through athletics.
