Golf’s Tough Stretch Continues

Despite no wins yet to show for the effort, the Flyers golf team has remained positive and is constantly learning each match. With away matches at Milton and Dedham ending in ten point or less losses, the team looked forward to coming home. Unfortunately, Milton’s team played extremely well yesterday with one player even shooting under par. The Flyers head to Framingham Country Club today to take on Braintree seeking the first win of the year.

The positives thus far have been plenty in spite of the record. The team is composed mostly of underclassmen (ten total freshmen and sophomores to just two upperclassmen). The team’s number one player, Joey Osborne, played mostly alternate or number 7 or 8 last year, improving significantly in the offseason and now often squaring off against senior, four-year golfers. The team has added significant depth with an additional sophomore and five strong freshmen who have contributed to the matches. Derek Bellerose and Eric McLellan have played in most matches while Bobby Strine and Cullen Smith have also had strong showings. The addition of senior, though first-year player, Dan Flanagan has added to the leadership of the team as well as quality play.

Next week, three Flyers–Joey Osborne, Bobby Strine, and Dan Flanagan–will compete against the Bay State’s best in the All Star tournament hosted at The Country Club in Brookline. Please wish them luck!
