Flyers Fall short against Saint John’s Prep

ST. JOHN’S PREP 4, FRAMINGHAM 2: Senior Don Goff’s first goal of the season gave Framingham (7-9-2) a 1-0 lead in the first, but perennial state power St. John’s Prep came back to down the host Flyers in a non-league game at Loring Arena.

Brian Pollard scored the other goal and goalie Al Lynch made 31 saves for Framingham against last year’s Division 1 Super Eight runner-up.

The Flyers need to win their last two games in the Cahoon Cup nextw eek to make the state tournament. They play Chelmsford in the opening round and then either Burlington or Medford.

Goff scored on an assist from Jake McKinnon. After St. John’s rallied to take a 3-1 lead, the Flyers missed an open net on a power play and 10 seconds later St. John’s put in a shorthanded tally to close out the win. Pollard scored on a set up from Cullen Smith as te Flyers were outshot 35-24.

“I’m proud of the guys,’’ said Framingham coach Paul Spears. “It was a quality effort. We get criticized for playing a tough schedule but out team can play with any team in high school hockey.’’
